SOME 53 people received spectacles while a total of 90 were registered during THE DOT Glasses Vision Care Camp, launched on Tuesday February 10, at North Star Alliance – Beitbridge Wellness Centre.
It has since been declared a success following that massive community.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Crisis Response Team leader North Star Alliance Beitbridge Wellness Centre Jabulani Makhado confirmed that 90 people registered for the DOT Glasses Vision Care screening, with 53 individuals accessing DOT Glasses during the outreach programme.
Makhado said some community members were screened and referred for further eye care, while others were found not to have any eye problems after examination.
“It was a successful launch. Ninety people registered for the DOT Glasses Vision Care screening and 53 accessed the glasses. Some were screened and referred, while others were found without eye problems,” he said.
He said the service will continue in two weeks’ time once new stock of glasses is received.
Some individuals who were screened could not immediately receive glasses because the correct lens combinations were not available.
They will get their reading or long-distance glasses when supplies arrive in a fortnight.
“Some people were screened but did not have the correct combination of lenses. In two weeks’ time they will receive their glasses, whether for reading or long sight,” he added.
Makhado further urged community members to continue taking advantage of the service, highlighting the friendly environment, privacy, and affordable prices offered at the centre.
The DOT Glasses Vision Care initiative is expected to continues to improve access to affordable eye care and promote better vision and eye health for the Beitbridge community.
