Zambia women national team captain and Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda has scooped the BBC women’s Footballer of the Year 2023-2024, making her the 10th winner of the BBC Women Footballer of the Year award.
The award was voted online by fans and Banda received most votes making her the winner of BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year followed by Aitana Bonmati from Spain who plays as a midfielder for Liga F club Barcelona and the Spain national team, while USA and Portland Thorns Forward Sophia Smith finished third.
Banda signed for Orlando Pride in March, Banda has scored 13 goals in the regular season and 4 goals in the play offs leading her was to being named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the NWSL regular season and four goals in the playoffs, including the winning goal in the championship final on Saturday as Orlando Pride won their maiden title.
