A Beitbridge woman gave birth to three bundles of joy two boys and a girl, a rare incident at the Beitbridge District Hospital.

Winnie Benyu, married to Christian Rundare of the 9200 Kwalu (SDP) Suburb she expected two, from her scan results but the cute little girl ran up after the boys making three.

“It was normal labour pain because the scan showed two. After the second i felt another was coming. I am happy, but would do with help to look after these wonderful gifts,” she said.

Nurses at the Beitbridge Maternity Ward lay the four on two birds improvised to make one big bed where Winnie and the three extra to her other two children lay, neatly wrapped away from Wednesday chilly weather.

Asked if any in her family had had triplets before, Winnie said someone in her mom’s family had and also there was another in her husband’s family who bore twins.

“But I have not heard of triplets, I could be the first,” she said.

At 26 now, Winnie now has five children and are likely to be a handful for their family where both spouses are unemployed.

A senior Beitbridge resident who asked not to be named said the family would definitely need assistance and African culture spelt that a child is for a village and not family.

“Here is where people need give a hand generously, people may have to help this family,” he said.

The triplets share their October 1 birthday with former US President the late James Earl Carter Jr. Popularly known as Jimmy Carter.

He was born October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, at the Wise Sanitarium, where his mother worked as a registered nurse becoming the first U.S. president born in a hospital.

Another famous person sharing the same birthday are William E. Boeing, founder of Boeing company that manufactures aeroplanes.
