Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has revealed that he has formally proposed former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari for the vacant Highlanders FC coaching position and offered to personally underwrite his entire contract if appointed.

In a post on his Facebook page, Chivayo said he recently hosted Mwaruwari and fellow football icon Harlington Shereni for breakfast at his home, describing the meeting as one of the most cherished moments of his life.

He reflected on Mwaruwari’s journey from local football to a successful international career.

Mwaruwari previously played for top clubs including AJ Auxerre, Portsmouth, Manchester City, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers before returning to Southern Africa.

Chivayo said the coaching proposal was sparked by discussions around Highlanders’ recent decision to part ways with Dutch coach Pieter de Jongh.

According to Chivhayo, Mwaruwari expressed interest in the job on condition that Chivayo personally guarantees his contract.

The offer includes a brand-new car of Mwaruwari’s choice, full monthly salary and benefits, as well as all contractual guarantees for the duration of his stay.

Chivayo said the pledge is in addition to his existing US$1 million sponsorship of the club and will only apply if Highlanders select Mwaruwari for the role.

Chivayo also said he has made a formal submission to Highlanders FC leadership through the club’s governance structures.

He argued that Mwaruwari’s international experience, combined with his deep understanding of Zimbabwean football, makes him the ideal candidate.

Chivayo said foreign coaches have failed to deliver expected results at Bosso, saying the move would support the national philosophy of “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”

He further said the proposal is part of his philanthropic work and is meant to honour the legacy of the late former Vice President John Landa Nkomo, a lifelong Highlanders supporter.

“With Benjani at the helm, I believe Bosso has what it takes to reclaim glory in the 2026 Premier League season,” Chivayo said.
