Zimbabwean Premier Soccer league side, Highlanders Football Club is commemorating a remarkable milestone, 99 years of football history and legacy.
The Bulawayo based club, was established in 1926 by two of King Lobengula‘s grandsons, Prince Albert and Prince Rhodes Khumalo who were sons of Njube. The team was mainly composed of players from Makokoba, Bulawayo‘s oldest town.
Highlanders FC famously known as Bosso, Tshilamoya and Amahlolanyama took social media to appreciate and commemorate their 99 years of football legacy.
“99 years of football history and legacy, saluting those who paved the way,” the Club stated.
Highlanders FC is one of the most successful clubs with 7 PSL titles since Independence, one of the two most followed club in Zimbabwe. Between 1999 and 2002, Bosso won the league for four consecutuve seasons.
Bosso was initially called Lions Football Club and in 1936 it was renamed to Matabeleland Highlanders Football Club before it was renamed to Highlanders FC.
