HILANDERS FC have officially acknowledged an offer from Wicknell Chivayo to fully underwrite the salary of former Zimbabwe international Benjani Mwaruwari if he is appointed as the club’s next head coach.
In a press statement on Monday, the Bulawayo giants confirmed that Chivayo had proposed to “facilitate and take care of Mr Benjani Mwaruwari” should the club move to engage him as head coach.
The club said it appreciated the gesture and acknowledged that the businessman acted with the best interests of Highlanders at heart.
However, Bosso emphasised that the recruitment of technical staff follows established internal procedures which cannot be influenced by external offers alone.
“There are processes and procedures that are in place that speak to the hiring of technical and playing staff,” the statement read.
Highlanders further confirmed that they are already at an advanced stage in selecting a new head coach to replace Pieter de Jongh ahead of the forthcoming season.
Although the identity of the preferred candidate was not disclosed, the club assured supporters that a formal announcement would be made once the process is finalised.
“This development will be shared with the Highlanders FC family once concluded,” the club said.
The statement also expressed gratitude to Chivayo for his continued support and interest in assisting the club as it prepares for a historic milestone year.
“We thank Sir Chivayo for his consideration and continued support to the club,” read the statement.
Highlanders are set to celebrate their 100-year anniversary in 2026, with the club indicating that stronger backing from stakeholders is expected as preparations for the centenary gather momentum.
