BEITBRIDGE businessman Farai Prosper Longwe popularly known as “Fatso or Mr Grocery” on Wednesday night shot his wife dead before turning the gun on himself.
The incident believed to have happened at around midnight at their rented home at 1004 Medium Density Suburb Beitbridge opposite entertainment venue PaGomba on the highway leading out of Beitbridge to Bulawayo and Harare.
As at 9am Longwe and his wife’s bodies were still in the house as police sought details and evidence of the sudden deaths.
“We have specialist officers from the forensic unit who arrived from Harare to attend. This is why it is taking long because of the details they take in such cases. They have to be thorough and they do not need crowds,” said the officer commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube.
According to his cousin Trust Maphosa Longwe had several shops at the Mashakada area, a business empire he built from humble beginnings selling airtime juice cards.
He is understood to have built a house in the SDP area but is believed to have sold it when his businesses started falling in a rough patch.
