The case involving Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe, and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze has been postponed to 24 March as legal proceedings continue in South Africa.
The two accused abandoned their bail applications last Wednesday after it emerged in court that they were in the country illegally, a development that significantly shifted the direction of the case.
According to reports by eNCA, their legal representatives informed the court that both men intend to enter into plea negotiations with the State, opting to pursue a possible settlement rather than continue with bail proceedings.
Mugabe and Matonhodze remain in custody following their court appearance at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was formally postponed.
The pair faces a string of serious charges, including attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and pointing a firearm.
The charges stem from a February shooting incident at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park.
It is alleged that the two men shot a 23-year-old gardener during the incident, leaving the victim injured.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the high-profile nature of the accused and the serious nature of the allegations.
The court is expected to receive an update on the plea negotiations when the matter resumes later this month.
