FORMER Zimbabwe president the late Robert Mugabe’s son Bellarmine Chatunga and his co-accused Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze trial has been postponed to 17 April 2026, with both men remaining in custody following fresh delays in finalizing a plea agreement.

Prosecutors told the court negotiations were still incomplete despite earlier indications that a deal was nearly finalized, prompting the magistrate to warn that no further postponements would be granted and the matter must proceed on the next court date.

The pair face serious charges including attempted murder after a 23-year-old gardener was allegedly shot in the back at a Hyde Park property in mid-February.

They also face a firearm-related offence, defeating the ends of justice after the gun was not found, and alleged immigration violations.

Earlier they made bail applications abandoned midway due to the immigration issues.

Chatunga and his bodyguard Matonhodze are appearing in the Alexandra Magistrates Court in Johannesburg, South Africa.
They both face charges in connection with a shooting incident in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, facing charges including attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and overstaying his visa.
Based on reports surrounding the February 2026 shooting incident at a Hyde Park, Johannesburg residence, the 23-year-old gardener shot during an alleged altercation with Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe has not been formally named in major news updates.
