Victor Gao , Chinese lawyer, businessman, and academic who is the vice president of the Beijing-based Center for China and Globalization (CCG), has highlighted the dual-edged nature of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing both its potential to transform industries and the serious risks it poses if left unchecked.

Gao noted that AI has the capability to revolutionize a variety of sectors, including healthcare, finance, and beyond, suggesting that this technology could improve efficiencies and drive innovation.

However, he cautioned that without adequate oversight and regulation, AI could spiral out of control, potentially resulting in situations where machines operate contrary to human interests.

“AI has the potential to become a new species, one that could develop its own consciousness and operate independently of human control,” Gao stated.

He stressed that this concern is not merely theoretical but a tangible threat that requires urgent attention from global leaders and technologists alike.

He urged nations to come together to establish global standards and protocols, ensuring that AI technologies serve humanity’s best interests rather than pose a threat.

“Preventing AI from potentially enslaving humanity requires a concerted effort from the international community,” Gao further asserted

As the world continues to advance in AI development, Gao Feng’s remarks serve as a potent reminder of the need for vigilance and collaborative efforts in creating a safe and beneficial technological future.

The call for international cooperation underscores the complexity of navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of AI and its implications for society.
