Beitbridge Women’s Quota Councillor Angelline Tauya has unveiled her 2026 agenda, emphasising gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and community participation in local governance.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Tauya said one of her main goals is to implement a 50/50 gender quota in elected offices, while also addressing gender-based violence and promoting women’s involvement in business and leadership roles.
“We want to see women equally represented in leadership and decision-making positions, while also ensuring they have the resources to thrive economically,” she said.
A key pillar of her plan is supporting women-owned businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Tauya said her office will assist entrepreneurs with capital to grow their stock and help them access loans with flexible repayment terms.
“We are focusing on women SMEs by providing financial support and guidance, so they can expand their businesses and create opportunities for others,” she said.
On governance, Councillor Tauya is pushing for greater transparency and public participation.
She said residents will be engaged through regular town hall meetings, ward committees, and suggestion boxes placed in public spaces such as bus terminuses, markets, and shops.
“We want people’s voices to be heard, and for communities to actively participate in decisions that affect their lives,” she added.
Tauya said her commitment to skills development, mentorship, and leadership training for women in politics and business, aiming to empower the next generation of female leaders in Beitbridge.
With equality and economic growth at the forefront of her agenda, Tauya is calling on women to seize opportunities and participate fully in local governance and community development initiatives.
