THE lion in Beitbridge East which was heading east, has made a round-about turn and is now moving towards Beitbridge town again.

A professional hunter Norman Crook said the coordinates supplied early Friday showed it had turned towards Beitbridge.

“It looks like it lost its cubs and has turned towards Beitbridge. Most probably the cubs tried the river and may have been swept away or she completely lost them,” said Crook.

“We have requested a tracker from Bubi Valley Conservancy so we can track it once and for all. We may have to shoot it now and finish this altogether,” he said.

The other lion, a male, was in the Chikwarakwara area and had not moved towards the border town, he said.

To date the lions have caused a lot of anxiety in Beitbridge although no loss of human life has been reported.

The other reason could be people are not making ventures to its patrol area near the Limpopo River still flooded.

The two lions have collars and are said to have escaped from the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The Beitbridge Rural District Council an others stakeholders have asked residents to be cautious and stay indoors at night when lions are know to be active.

While they sleep during day, they hunt at night taking advantage of their extremely brilliant night vision believed between six and eight times better than humans.
