A fatal crane collapse at the construction site of Trababalas (Mbudzi) Interchange killed one person after a mechanical fault caused the crashing of a static tower crane and mobile crane which was being used for a de-erection process.
The deceased was an employee of a Manzlink company contracted as a rigging specialist firm at the construction site.
The incident is said to have happened during the dismantling of a static tower crane, which was being carried out by Manzlink, the rigging specialist firm.
According to Tefoma Construction the company responsible for the project offered condolences to the families of the deceased highlighting a mechanical failure led to the collapse of both the static tower crane and the mobile crane leading to the loss of one life.
“Tefoma Construction regrets to report that a fatal injury following a mechanical failure during crane de-erection operations at the Trababalas Interchange project site on the 6th of January 2025. The board of directors and management extend their sincere condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues,” said Tefoma in a statement.
Tefoma also indicated a full investigation into the matter has been launched.
“An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with Tefoma cooperating with relevant authorities.The company has offered its full support to the deceased’s family and is working closely with Manzlink and the employer during this difficult time.”
Tefoma has also reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards across all its project sites.
