Plumtree-A 34-year-old man from Madlambuzi has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping his 13-year-old biological daughter. The Plumtree Magistrates’ Court delivered the verdict after the man was found guilty of repeatedly raping his daughter between February 2020 and January 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) ,some time in February 2020 the accused person was alone at home with the complainant who was 13 years old at the time. He approached the complainant who was playing in a bedroom hut and started fondling her breasts before he removed her clothes and raped her.
He threatened to beat her up if she disclosed the matter to anyone and continued to rape the complainant each time he was left alone with her. The complainant got pregnant and gave birth in June 2021. The accused person threatened to kill her if she ever disclosed that he was the father of the child. He continued to rape her until January 2024.
The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her mother about the offence. A Police report was then made through the Department of Social Welfare leading to the arrest of the accused person.
