A 43‑year‑old man from Mushambe village, Chief Matibe in Beitbridge, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of raping his 15‑year‑old daughter.
Obert Nhamo Nyathi, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 appeared before magistrates Charity Maphosa at Beitbridge regional court where he was charged for Rape.
The court found that on December 3, 2025, Nyathi unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the juvenile without her consent.
According to the state being represented by Willbrought Muleya, the complainant had travelled from her grandmother’s home in Chapongwe village to spend the holidays in Mushambe. She was advised by Nyathi to spend the night at his homestead. Later that evening, Nyathi committed the offence while the child was asleep.
The matter came to light after the complainant reported the incident to a matron and later to her sister. She was subsequently examined at Mushamba Clinic, and medical evidence was presented in court.
