The Second Republic Government of Zimbabwe is aware of the challenges facing dependants of heroes and heroines of the nation hence it is making sure the Heroes Dependency Department under the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs is functional.

The Department of Heroes Dependency took its information dissemination to its clients in the border town of Beitbridge conscientising persons listed as dependants of Heroes on the process they have to undertake to receive assistance from the department.

Addressing stakeholders to the meeting mainly widows of heroes, Commissioner in the Department Gladys Moyo said the meeting held in Beitbridge is in line with President Mnangagwa’s clarion call of leaving no one and no place behind and the devolution agenda.

“The aim of this meeting is in tandem with President vision of leaving no one behind and no place behind, that includes dependants of Heroes. You have to get assistance and we are here to disseminate information on the assistance available to you,” said Commissioner Moyo

“We want you to understand the Act (National Heroes Act 10:16) created specifically to cater for you, that’s why we are here so that you get information, on how u can be assisted. You are blessed to have the new dispensation that is people oriented.

As part of the education drive, Commissioner Moyo took time to list the persons who are identified as dependants of Heroes.

“All children of War veterans are covered under this act, these include biological children, adopted children and step children, in addition, spouse (s) of the Hero and any person who was directly taken care by the hero before they passed on,” she said.

As part of the government’s devolution agenda, the department does have officers at district and provincial level that beneficiaries can use to get information they might need and be guided through the process of filing to get assistance.

Matabeleland South province has a significant history of the liberation struggle against colonial rule. The province was a battleground where freedom fighters engaged in armed resistance against oppressive colonial regime, primarily the British colonial administration. In preserving the rich history of the province, it is essential for the heroes’ dependants to have access to an improved quality of life,

The Department under the Ministry of Veterans of the liberation struggle Affairs is mandated by the National Heroes Act 10:16 to provide state assistance and matters incidental to the foregoing to dependants of Heroes that is National, Provincial and District ones.
