GREAT Zimbabwe University (GZU) has been recognised as the Best Exhibitor at the 21st Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) Annual General Meeting, receiving a certificate for its Millet Value Chain display.
The AGM took place in Gaborone, Botswana, from 1 to 5 December 2025.
The award followed an evaluation by independent scientists who assessed all exhibition stands at the event.
According to RUFORUM, the decision was based on the university’s ability to demonstrate how scientific research can be transformed into practical development outcomes, as well as its clear presentation of business opportunities for African farmers.
The exhibit’s emphasis on an African-led approach and its strong overall presentation were also cited.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, GZU noted that the recognition reinforces the institution’s Vision and Mission and reflects its growing impact within Africa’s higher education and research sectors.
The university participated in the AGM through the Gary Magadzire School of Agriculture and Engineering, which showcased innovations aligned with Zimbabwe’s Education 5.0 policy.
The university reported that its contributions at the AGM are the result of five years of work focused on developing solutions that support national industrialisation and economic development goals.
The award signals increasing regional and continental acknowledgment of these efforts.
RUFORUM, founded in 2004 by ten vice chancellors, now includes 175 universities in 40 African countries.
The organisation works to strengthen higher agricultural education and supports initiatives in science, technology, innovation, and human capital development, guided by frameworks such as Africa’s Agenda 2063, the CAADP programme, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
