THE Independence Flame Relay is set to begin in Beitbridge District, marking the start of a symbolic journey that honours Zimbabwe’s liberation history and national pride.

The official launch will take place on April 10, 2026, at Zezani, where Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is expected to ignite the Flame of liberation.

Following the lighting ceremony, the Flame will be taken to Beitbridge Town, where it will remain ahead of the scheduled roadshow route the following day.

Speaking during a preparatory meeting held in Beitbridge on Thursday, Samkeliso Ndlovu, an administrative officer at the District Development Coordinator’s office, outlined the local route.

She said the relay in Beitbridge will begin at the Beitbridge Zimbabwe Republic Police Station, proceeding into town through the Municipality of Beitbridge and the Old Border Post.

It will then move through the Rank and Mashavire Speed Market before concluding the district tour at Lutumba.

From there, the Flame will proceed to Malala en route to Gwanda.

The relay will then travel across several districts, including Gwanda District, Insiza District, Umzingwane District, Bulilima District, and Mangwe District, celebrating the province’s rich liberation heritage.

The journey will culminate at Ratanangwana on April 17, 2026, where Vice President Kembo Mohadi will preside over the final lighting ceremony ahead of Independence Day commemorations.

Zimbabwe’s main Independence Day celebrations will be held the following day, April 18, 2026, in Maphisa.

The ceremonial lighting of the Flame serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by countless Zimbabweans who fought for freedom and justice.

Once lit, it burns continuously, symbolising the resilience of Zimbabwe’s independence and the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.
