ZEZANI Assembly Point in Beitbridge District will come alive this Friday as music, dance and poetry take centre stage during the district launch of the Independence Flame in Matabeleland South Province.
The historic venue, once an assembly point for liberation fighters during Zimbabwe’s armed struggle known as the Juliet Assembly, will now host a vibrant celebration blending culture and history as the nation marks its independence milestone.
Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is expected to officiate at the event and ignite the Independence Flame, a symbolic act that marks the beginning of commemorations leading up to Independence Day.
Preparations are already at an advanced stage, with organisers confirming a diverse lineup of entertainment designed to reflect the spirit of the liberation struggle while showcasing local talent.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Beitbridge District Arts and Culture Officer, Cossam Zulu, said the selection of performers deliberately focused on artists from communities surrounding the venue.
“We targeted mostly artists from the wards closer to the event, while also considering their profiles and relevance to the independence focus,” said Zulu.
The entertainment lineup includes Tshanyawugwe Super Sounds, Takalang Band from Ward 10 Whunga, The Fugeez Band, Zezani High Contemporary Dance and Poetry group, and Vhusani Beitbridge Choir, among other performers expected to grace the stage.
The event is expected to draw large crowds from across the district, with organisers promising a colourful showcase of local culture through music, dance and spoken word.
Meanwhile, the Independence Flame has already begun its journey, with a send-off ceremony held at the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe in Harare on April 9.
In a related development, Beitbridge-born artist Bhadilah has earned national recognition after being selected to perform at Zimbabwe’s 2026 Independence Gala.
The gala, scheduled for April 18, will be held at Minda High School in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province.
Bhadilah stands out as the only artist from Beitbridge set to perform at the national event, further highlighting the district’s growing influence on the country’s cultural landscape.
As the countdown to Friday’s launch continues, anticipation is building for what promises to be a memorable fusion of heritage and entertainment at Zezani Assembly.
