A 45-year-old man from Mubaira has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for engaging in sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl. The man began a relationship with the minor in August 2024, and they had consensual sex at his home in September 2024.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), notes that in August 2024, the offender got into a relationship with the juvenile. The two subsequently engaged in consensual sexual intercourse at his home in September 2024.
On the 19th of October 2024, the juvenile eloped with him and they lived together as husband and wife. The offence came to light when the juvenile’s sister found out on the 23rd of October 2024, leading to the offender’s arrest.
This case serves as a reminder that sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 18 has no place in our society.
