A 19-year-old man from Arda Village in Triangle has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing nine cattle valued at USD 2,500. He was convicted and sentenced by the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reports that on November 3, 2024, at around 6:00 PM, the complainant penned his cattle and went home.

Later that night, Brighton Mudewu unpenned the kraal, stole the nine cattle, and left unnoticed. The following day, at around 6:00 AM, the complainant discovered that his livestock had been stolen.

On the same day, around 9:00 AM, the complainant received a phone call from an informant who told him that his cattle had been found at Gwerima with Mudewu, who intended to sell them.

Mudewu was apprehended by the community when one member pretended to be a potential buyer of the stolen cattle. He was subsequently arrested.

The stolen cattle, valued at USD 2,500, were recovered in full.
