A man suspected of assaulting and stabbing his wife was found hanging from a tree in the Mabidi Suburb in a suspected suicide on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Dominic Madzinga, a former groundsman at Mana Trade Truck Stop.
The acting Officer Commanding Beitbridge Police District Superintendent Philisani Ndebele said he had not heard about the suicide but a domestic violence case with similar circumstances was reported.
“A report of domestic violence of similar circumstances was reported but I have not heard about the suicide. Let me speak to the officer in charge of the area and establish facts,” Ndebele told Ziyah News Network.
But according to residents, the incident began as a domestic dispute deteriorated to violence at the couple’s residence
Madzinga is said to have severely assaulted his wife before stabbing her in the stomach.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The woman sustained serious injuries and her condition had not yet been officially confirmed at the time of publication.
Hours after the alleged attack, Madzinga’s body was discovered hanging from a tree a distance from the scene.
The incident coming just a week after two sudden deaths involving matters of the heart in Beitbridge shocked residents at the scene where police were yet to arrive hours after the body had been discovered.
“This is deeply troubling for our community. There is a need for stronger intervention and awareness to prevent such incidents,” said a local resident.
