A security company supervisor has appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court on allegations of cyberbullying after he allegedly shared intimate images of his manager and girlfriend.

Nicholas Katazo the supervisor at Trust Me Security, appeared before Magistrate Gillian Padzakashamba facing charges of contravening the Cyber and Data Protection Act.

Prosecutor Sicelesile Sibanda told the court that on March 17 2025 at around 1500 hours, Katazo allegedly circulated images showing Provincial Manager Fredy Hachi kissing his girlfriend Rachel Musavengane, to various colleagues.

The State alleges that the distribution of the images was intended to threaten, humiliate and embarrass the complainant following a workplace dispute.

Katazo denied the charge.

Hachi said the incident is linked to a fallout after he had transferred several supervisors from Beitbridge to other stations, including Katazo, who was reassigned to Harare.

Testifying in court, Hachi said he believes the accused acted out of anger over the transfer.

“I think he was not happy about being moved to Harare and that is why he shared those pictures with workmates,” he said.

He further said testified that he personally received the images from Katazo along with what he described as a threatening message suggesting he should do something before the images were shared more widely concerning reversal of transfer.

The court heard that the images soon spread beyond the workplace, drawing attention from offices in Harare and Beitbridge and resulting in Hachi being questioned over the matter.

“I started receiving calls and messages from different offices, including Harare and I was also called for interviews in the Beitbridge Presidential office,” he said.

He said the incident caused him embarrassment and distress.

In his defence, Katazo argued that the images were already circulating on social media before he received them.

“I am not the one who first had those pictures. They were already all over social media ,” he told the court.

Katazo claimed that a fellow supervisor, identified as Brian Muchipo sent him the images, allegedly linking them to the reasons behind his transfer.

“I only forwarded what I had received,” he said.

The trial continues.
