A serious road accident on Sunday involving 16 journalists and support staff from The Masvingo Mirror has resulted in multiple injuries, including three senior bureau chiefs, following a harrowing crash near Mutimurefu Prison along the Masvingo-Mutare Road.

The group was returning from a strategic planning workshop held at Nyuni Lodge when their commuter bus overturned three times at the 25-kilometer peg. Among the passengers was a one-month-old infant. Victims of the accident are currently receiving treatment at two hospitals in Masvingo.

Those reported to be in critical condition include bureau chiefs Increase Gumbo, Alvina Chiwanika, and Prisca Manyiwa-Masuku.

In a statement issued on Monday, Advocate Rodgers Matsikidze, Chairperson of the Masvingo Mirror Board, and Vice Chairperson Virginia Takaona-Holmes expressed their profound sorrow over the incident and extended their heartfelt thanks to those who acted swiftly to assist the injured at the scene.

“The board wishes to acknowledge the bravery and quick response of Sister Rosemary Pepukai and Sister Tandekile Gudoshava from Mutimurefu Prison Hospital, who provided lifesaving first aid immediately after the crash,” the statement noted.
