STUDENTS with 10 points and above in A Level national examinations will be eligible for Presidential Scholarships with opportunities to pursue selected fields of study, a senior government official has said.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Hon Albert Nguluvhe on Sunday said students from the province stand a chance equal to any other in the country.
He was speaking at his elevation celebration organised by various churches at PaGomba Cafe.
Nguluvhe said the initiative aims to support high performing students and enhance access to tertiary education in the province.
He said while certain fields of study have been targeted for the scholarships, details are yet to be formally presented.
He also said students who score below 10 points will also be considered if opportunities arise, saying that the initiative seeks to leave no potential talent behind.
“These scholarships are designed to encourage excellence and open doors for our young people,” Nguluvhe said.
“Even those who may not meet the top scores can still apply and will be taken into consideration when opportunities become available.”
Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira one of the leaders for Vapostori for ED, praised the initiative saying that if the programme were in Harare the allocation might be limited to the top 15% of students, but Beitbridge has been blessed with broader opportunities.
He said the scholarships should primarily benefit Matabeleland South students, urging that applicants from other provinces should not take precedence.
Nguluvhe called on parents, schools and community leaders to support students in pursuing academic excellence and to guide them towards taking advantage of available educational opportunities.
