Robert Mugabe Junior, the son of the late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, has been released on bail after spending two nights in custody on allegations of involvement in a drug syndicate.

Harare Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki set bail at US$300 on Friday, ordering the 33-year-old to observe strict conditions.

Mugabe Junior must report once a week, every Friday, to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Drugs and Narcotics division and is required to remain at his given address until the matter is finalised.

His next court appearance is scheduled for 22 October 2025.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) allege that Mugabe Junior is linked to a wider drug trafficking network.

In a statement issued on 2 October, authorities claimed the syndicate was found in possession of 25 sachets of Indo hybrid dagga and six ecstasy pills.

Other suspects named include Phillip Munetsi Chiyangwa (26), son of businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, along with Mitchel Jackson (28), Simbarashe Kaseke (37), Wellington Icube (19), and Tanaka Kashamba (25).

The magistrate has ordered Mugabe Junior to return to court on 22 October as investigations into the alleged syndicate continue.
