Gaborone- A new era is unravelling in Botswana as the just ended elections delivered a historic moment by handing victory to the opposition party, Umbrella for Democratic Change coalition led by Adv. Duma Boko signaling the end of BDP’s 58 year rule of in the Diamond rich. country.
New President Duma becomes Botswana‘s 6th President after replacing President Mokgweetsi Masisi ,who on Friday conceded defeat after his Botswana Democratic Party lost by a landslide for the first time in 58 years.
Following his historic election win, 54 year old President Duma took social media to express his gratitude and appreciation to those who supported and congratulated him.
“Thank you all for the congratulatory messages following our historic win .i accept this victory with humility and appreciate my predecessor‘s peaceful concession, reflecting our stability as a nation. I look forward to a progressive journey of unity and collaboration “President Duma wrote.
In his acceptance speech, the incoming President promised the Batswana people to do great things in Botswana.
“I dare not fail or I dare not disappoint, and I pledge with every fibre of my being, that I will do everything I can not to fail not to disappoint, appreciating always the enormity of the responsibility bestowed upon me by the people of this republic,” President Duma said.
Batswanas will be hoping for a new era to be filled with joy and development in all spheres.
