THE Municipality of Beitbridge will on Wednesday begin fencing a new bulk market that will accommodate atleast 1 200 vendors, with traders from the Tshitaudze Market, popularly known as the Speed Market expected to be relocated next month.
Beitbridge Mayor Peter Pirato Mafuta told Ziyah News Newspaper on Monday.
“Beginning Wednesday we are now fencing the new bulk market so that next month we move the Tshitaudze Market, popularly known as Speed Market at Mashavire,” Mafuta said.
He said the new facility would provide enough space for vendors while helping council improve the management of trading activities.
“The new market will accommodate 1 000 to 1 200 vendors, so it will be enough for us to keep our town clean and safe,” he said.
The new Fresh Supplies Market is located in the Medium Density suburb, on a stand that was previously set aside for a stadium.
The current market has inadequate infrastructure, including a lack of proper ablution facilities, creating sanitation challenges for traders and customers.
The new facility is expected to provide a more structured trading environment with improved infrastructure and sanitation facilities.
Mafuta made the announcement after an inspection of municipal projects and key public spaces.
