Masvingo-The Officer Commanding Police Masvingo Central District has issued a strict memorandum, prohibiting police officers from using cell phones while on duty effective immediately.
“Police officers are prohibited to use cell phones during working hours expect during breaks and lunch. Officers found with cell phones on duty whilst on duty,” said the memo adding that anyone flouting the directive “will be put in task.”
The ban of using cellphone while on duty is allegedly meant to ensure officers concentrate on their work without any distractions.
The memorandum further states that, “Officers-in-charge must collect and safely store cell phones in a designated safe or cabinet before duty commences.”
Furthermore it also states that, “all stations standard operation procedures should contain a clause governing the use of cell phones whilst on duty and members should acknowledge having read and understood the SOPs.”
