A Beitbridge lawyer has said those in power can make constitutional ammendments to suit requirements of the masses they represent.
Commenting on the topical ammendment of the constitution by the ruling Zanu PF Forbes Muchihwande Sithole said when one has the majority support they follow what those masses want.
Zanu PF, he said, has support of majority and thus can change any law.
“When the government of Smith was changed in 1980, did the black masses use referendum to do that? It was the power of majority,” he said.
“There was land reform in 2000, was there any referendum? Was it not the power of the masses?”
“How do you have majority of parliamentarians if you dont have the masses on your side”
The party with majority support gets majority in parliament and naturally wins presidential vote, said Sithole.
He said the dynamics of power are that the majority can change the constitution in a manner they so wish be it by referendum on any other manner they so wish.
“Its all called revolution. Its by the power of the mass. ZANU PF is a revolutionary party and can change the law using power of the mass,” said Sithole who is the ZANU PF Secretary for Mines DCC Beitbridge.
