The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has arrested 38 undocumented foreign nationals during a multi-day operation targeting illegal mining activities.The arrests were made during a Multidisciplinary Operation Vala Umgodi, which took place across all five districts of the province.
The South African Police service said that the suspects are aged between 18 and 50, will be charged in various Magistrates Courts in the province.
“The suspects are aged between 18 and 50, were found to be in contravention of the Immigration Act during coordinated disruptive operations at various mining sites.They will face charges before different Magistrate’s Court in the province.”
Operation Vala Umgodi aims to address illegal activities within the mining sector and ensure compliance with South African immigration laws. The operation reinforces the SAPS commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the country’s borders.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for their efforts in curbing illegal immigration and protecting local communities from the negative impacts of unlawful activities in the mining industry.
The South African Police service (SAPS)has arrested a total of 932 suspects, including 496 undocumented foreign nationals, across all five districts of the province between December 1, 2024, and January 12, 2025.
