Access to the Baobab Restaurant at the Beitbridge Border Post will be limited to people with passports, Beitbridge Regional Immigration officer Joshua Chibundu has said.

The restaurant opened on Monday February 16 2026 after two years of preparations. It is located outside the upgraded border post and is expected to serve travellers, truck drivers and border staff.

When asked by Ziyah News Network what access procedures are in place for people without passports and non-travellers who may wish to use the facility, Chibundu said, “only those with passports will enter.”

On whether passport holders coming to the restaurant would be required to stamp their documents on the Zimbabwean side, he said said, “they will see how the operations will be.”

Restaurant manager George Binikos said the facility offers a variety of meals and provides a convenient place for travellers to eat while waiting to be processed.

“It is a place where travellers can park in between their journey, get a good meal before proceeding. We have a big and secure parking space,” he said.

The restaurant is situated near the Limpopo River and overlooks parts of the border post. It also plans to open a duty-free shop soon.

Authorities are expected to clarify operational details as the facility begins full operations.
