The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has officially extended the registration deadline for the November Grade 7, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level exams to May 16.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerayi Moyo, during a Senate session on Thursday.
The decision to extend the deadline comes in response to concerns raised by lawmakers who argued that the original deadline of March 28 was too early in the year.
They highlighted that this timeframe could hinder many financially disadvantaged students from registering for the exams.
Minister Moyo addressed senators, explaining the reasoning behind the extension.
“The public examination fees were scheduled to be paid on or before March 28, but we received a request from parliamentarians this afternoon that the date be extended. In consultation with the stakeholders, we have agreed that the date be extended to May 16.”
The extension offers a crucial reprieve for students and parents facing financial challenges, providing them with an additional two months to gather the necessary funds for exam registration.
