GOVERNMENT has set in motion processes to repatriate and provide State-assisted burials for 42 Zimbabweans now known to have died in Sunday’s horrific crash near Makhado formerly Louis Tritchadt.
Beitbridge District Development Coordinator Sikhangezile Mafu said all protocols had been activated and she was waiting for the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa and Harare head office to move.
On the ground, she had already notified a funeral parlour to mobilise resources.
“We have activated the systems under the Civil Protection Unit. While we wait for the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa and our head office in Harare, we have already informed a funeral parlour to be on standby,” she said.
The 42 perished while many others were hospitalised after the bus from Port Elizabeth bound for Harare broke a barrier and rolled over into a valley, killing 38 on the spot.
Reports from South Africa said many were trapped in the bus, and images from the scene are depressing.
A passenger list circulating from South Africa suggests that most deceased were Zimbabweans and not any Malawi nationals as earlier put.
It includes seven children believed to have been aboard the bus.
The list believed to have been taken from the bus passengers manifesto is as follows but does not necessarily reflect those who died.
