The Sundrive Business Summit and Awards was on last in Beitbridge, where entrepreneurs were urged to utilise knowledge gained from the summit and forge connections that could lead to a boom in the local economy.
This initiative aims to contribute to Zimbabwe’s GDP, in line with the country’s goal of becoming an upper-middle-class nation by 2030, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind.
The awards recognises business leaders from various sectors, celebrating the accomplishments of the Beitbridge business community.
Delivering opening remarks on behalf of the Sundrive Coalition, Nyarai Chiworeso, director of Powerful Deco, highlighted Sundrive’s commitment to creating an environment that inspires the business sector by bringing all stakeholders together.
“Sundrive is a movement, and we are committed to creating an environment that inspires business to challenge the status quo and transcend boundaries,” she said.
Chiworeso further acknowledged the importance of connecting with fellow entrepreneurs and listening to industry experts.
“Through innovative practices, nurturing mentorship, and a support framework, Sundrive serves as a beacon for enterprises aspiring for growth,” she added.
Speaking on behalf of the Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matebeleland South Province, District Economist G. Moyo called upon investors to support young entrepreneurs, encouraging them to contribute to the economy’s growth.
“Let us rally behind them so that they can continue their journey with resilience and determination and encourage them to catch fire and pursue their dreams with the same favor,” he said.
Moyo also advised entrepreneurs to actively participate in the ongoing development in Beitbridge by contributing to growth and infrastructure.
“Beitbridge has been at the forefront of this transformation; our border post has seen substantial modernisation,” he added.
Thomas Gwatida, businessman and Chairperson for Gwanda Business Associates, shared his entrepreneurial journey, emphasising determination as a key to success.
“The road to success requires determination,” he stated.
Gwatida encouraged businesses to start producing goods, locate markets even outside the country, and export them.
“Zimbabwe is among the 53 countries that signed the AfCFTA; therefore, when it starts to be implemented, do not be left out,” he cautioned.
He further urged enterprises to comply with government rules and regulations.
Additionally, Junior Marima Pvt Ltd’s founder and managing director, a prominent businessman from Masvingo, advised entrepreneurs to plan and set achievable goals.
“Planning is key as it will guide you on achieving your goals one step at a time,” he urged.
He also advised entrepreneurs against competing with others, encouraging them instead to focus on their own goals and successes.
“Do not compete with anyone and do not be intimidated when you want to enter a market that is already occupied,” Marima concluded.
The Sundrive Business Summit serves as a vital platform for fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs in Beitbridge, paving the way for economic growth and sustainability in the District and Province at large.
