Beitbridge-Equipment worth thousands of Dollars was destroyed last night when Grill Square, a food outlet along the Beitbridge Harare highway caught fire. The eatery joint which sits in a mini complex that houses Total Energies fuel station caught fire from a yet to be ascertained source leaving workers, taxi drivers that are usually domiciled there scurrying for safety.

The fire incident which occurred at around 9 pm, took many by surprise and it took alert and brave residents and the Fire Brigade which arrived about 30 minutes after the fire was first reported to avert a potential disaster as the building houses highly flammable fuels in LPG gas, diesel and petrol.

Eye witness who spoke to Ziyah News Network confirmed that the Fire Brigade pitched up 30 minutes later and many of the people were concerned with taking their vehicles and lives to safety except for a few who decided to tackle the fire head on as they waited for professionals to arrive.

“I realised that there was a fire when I was standing by the road, I rushed to see if I could help, we attempted to douse the fire using buckets of water but though helpful, it did not extinguish the fire. The Fire brigade took a bit of time to arrive I would say about 30 minutes,” said Mr Moyo, one of the Beitbridge residents who was brave enough to fight the fire.

The fire fighters from the Fire Department managed to deal with the flames in about thirty minutes and more importantly before the fire had come into contact with the flammable fuels on sight.
