Business mogul Kudakwashe Tagwirei has donated US100,000 to a group of retired Zimbabwean footballers and coaches under the banner Former Footballers and Coaches for ED, a newly formed association aligned with the ruling ZANU PF party.
The donation was announced by ZANU PF youth leader Taurai Kandishaya via Facebook, following a gathering held on Tagwirei’s farm in Murehwa.
The initiative is part of what supporters say aligns with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision to honour the country’s sports legends.
“In line with President ED Mnangagwa’s vision, Tagwirei remembered our legends and pledged US$100,000 plus guaranteed health benefits,” Kandishaya said.
Tagwirei, whose company Sakunda Holdings is a major sponsor of Dynamos FC, also pledged ongoing support, particularly in the area of healthcare for the retired football figures.
Among those in attendance was former Dynamos striker Evans Gwekwerere, who voiced strong support for Mnangagwa’s leadership, expressing confidence that the President will remain in office until at least 2030 a sentiment that was echoed by other attendees with ties to the ruling party.
