The 18th edition of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo was officially opened today by the President of Zimbabwe at Mutare Sports Club.
The three-day event, running until 12 September, marks the first time the prestigious tourism showcase is being hosted outside Bulawayo.
This year’s expo has attracted 450 exhibitors and representatives from 23 countries across the globe, reaffirming Zimbabwe’s position as a leading destination on the international tourism calendar.
In her keynote address, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Barbara Rwodzi, said the move to bring the expo to Manicaland was in line with the President’s Vision 2030 of achieving an upper-middle-income economy.
She noted that decentralising the event allows different provinces to highlight their unique tourism potential, ensuring inclusive growth across the sector.
“The decision to host the expo in Mutare is about amplifying our message and showcasing to the world the beauty and opportunities that exist beyond traditional destinations,” said Hon. Rwodzi.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Misheck Mugadza, praised the President for giving the province the honour of hosting the event for the first time.
He said the expo has already stimulated development in the region, including the introduction of new air and rail services and the upgrading of infrastructure such as the Mutare Sports Club.Hon. Mugadza added that the event has boosted job creation, promoted local hotels and lodges, and strengthened the province’s visibility as a tourism hub.
