A cross-border haulage truck driver and his female passenger have appeared before Regional Magistrate Charity Maphosa on allegations of possesions 10 kilograms of Dagga.

Brighton Bhima (30) and Magarete Hove (43) were allegedly intercepted at the Beitbridge Border Post.

Prosecutor Willbrought Muleya told the court that Bhima a driver with Ocean was behind the wheel while Hove of Zvishavane was on the truck’s sleeper bed when police searched and made the discovery.

In their defense both accused denied any knowledge of the contraband.

He claimed the truck was loaded in Johannesburg and that he was simply transporting goods as directed.

Hove in turn said she was a mere passenger and had asked the driver to stop for a restroom break when the truck was intercepted.

She denied knowing about the dagga or being involved in its transportation.

The two are represented by Forbes Muchihwande Sithole of Samp Mlaudzi & Partners Attorneys who applied for applied for a discharge at the end of the State case.

The trial adjourned and is expected to continue on October 7, 2025.
