THE Beitbridge Handball Association will host the Tshitaudze Schools Handball Tournament on March 24 at Beitbridge Government Primary School, marking a significant step in the growth of the sport in the region.
The tournament, which features both NASH and NAPH age groups, reflects a deliberate effort to develop handball from the grassroots level through to the youth ranks.
Organisers say the event builds on momentum created by the establishment of Beitbridge’s first handball club, a move that has expanded opportunities for young players in the area.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Beitbridge Handball Representative Believemore Nyoni emphasized the importance of the tournament for the youths in the region.
“This tournament is meant for celebrating handball’s growth in Beitbridge, this tournament is a fighting tool against drug and substance abuse. By engaging the youth in sport, we offer them purpose and a vision for a brighter future.”
The tournament initiative is spearheaded by Beitbridge’s Chief Tshiṱaudze, a passionate handball enthusiast, who exemplifies how sport can be a force for positive change, guiding young people away from risky paths and toward lasting success.
Beyond competition, the tournament is aimed at creating a sustainable development pathway, shifting handball from an occasional activity to a structured, year-round sport.
The initiative also comes amid rising recognition of local talent, with players from Beitbridge earning spots at national team trials.
With its focus on inclusivity and long-term growth, the Tshitaudze Tournament is expected to play a key role in strengthening the sport’s footprint in Beitbridge and could evolve into a regular fixture on Zimbabwe’s handball calendar.
