The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has named 32 drug barons and suppliers, including two men from Beitbridge: Admire Chamwaita, 26, from Mfelandawonye, and Madawu Ndamulelo, 18, from Botina village. They have been convicted and sentenced by local courts as part of the government’s efforts to combat drug abuse in the country.
In a press statement, the ZRP reported that Chamwaita was arrested for illegal possession of dagga and has been sentenced to perform 210 hours of community service.
Ndamulelo was apprehended for illegal possession of dagga, Benylin syrup, and Broncleer cough syrup. He has been convicted and sentenced to pay a US$60 fine or serve 15 months in prison.
Most of the 32 arrested and convicted suspects are facing charges related to illegal possession of dagga. Notably, a significant number of the suspects are between the ages of 18 and 35, which raises concerns about the future of the youth in the community.
The ZRP reiterates its commitment to the fight against drug and substance abuse through the National Committee on the Elimination of Drugs and Substance Abuse. The organization assures the public that it will continue to name and shame drug barons and suppliers operating across the country.
The ZRP urges the public to report any information regarding drug barons and suppliers through the National Complaints Desk.
