The National Judicial Council of Vapostori (NJCV) is defending businessman Wicknell Chivayo amidst growing speculation that his wealth is connected to kuromba following reports of two car accidents involving vehicles he gifted to fellow believers on the same day.
The accidents involved Madzibaba Obey Mapuranga, spokesperson for the Vapostori and supporter of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and Madzibaba Owen Velvet. Both incidents were first reported on the Zanu-PF Operation Restore Legacy Facebook page.
In a statement released Thursday, the NJCV vehemently condemned allegations suggesting that Chivayo orchestrated the accidents as part of kuromba to maintain his wealth.
“The National Judicial Council of Vapostori stands united and alarmed in the face of a grave injustice—a malicious defamation of character launched by the Zimeye online newspaper on December 30, 2024. Buried within the pages of their article titled ‘Two Chivhayo Cars Involved in an Accident Same Day,’ the newspaper falsely accused Sir Wicknell Chivhayo of orchestrating automotive gifts that have allegedly led to unfortunate incidents,” the statement read.
The NJCV emphasized that Chivayo’s generosity is rooted in his faith and devotion to God, clarifying that his gifts are acts of tithing and not obligations related to kuromba.
Further, the council of Vapostori feels compelled to rectify these baseless claims.
Our faith has finally been blessed with an extraordinary man whose kindness knows no bounds—a man who fervently prays and fasts for the prosperity of his endeavors while diligently returning ten percent of his earnings to God through charitable donations,” the statement continued.
The council called for the immediate retraction of the article published by Zimeye, accusing the outlet of disseminating harmful and false narratives.
“We demand an immediate retraction from Zimeye, which has recklessly propagated an insidious narrative that seeks only to plant seeds of doubt regarding the source of Sir Wicknell Chivhayo’s generosity in light of previous accidents.
Rest assured, the National Judicial Council of Vapostori stands resolute in defending their faith against these unfounded attacks.
We will not remain passive while others attempt to tarnish our reputation. We pledge to uphold the truth and set the record straight,” the statement concluded.
