LUTUMBA — Rising local artist Washington Kuzvona, popularly known as Ngwere yemu Beitbridge, claimed the top prize at this year’s Beitbridge Super Star 2025 competition on Saturday, following an energetic freestyle Zimdancehall performance that captivated hundreds of fans who gathered for the event’s second edition.

A total of 13 contestants showcased their talent and the winner is expected to represent the district at the Matabeleland South Super Star 2025 competitions in Gwanda.

Kuzvona scooped the first prize of R1000 and a trophy, while Tinetariro Ngwenya came second and received R500. Prosper Muzenda was third and walked away with R300.

  • Washington Kuzvona
  • Tinetariro Ngwenya
  • Prosper Muzenda

Speaking after his win, Kuzvona expressed his gratitude to his supporters and Donzvo Entertainment for giving him a platform to shine.

“I am grateful to my fans and Donzvo Entertainment for this opportunity. I promise to represent Beitbridge well at the provincial level,” he said.

Muzenda also thanked his fans for their unwavering support during his performance.

Donzvo Entertainment Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shimron Sibanda said the event was a success despite a few delays at the start.

“We feel proud to have managed to gather hundreds here in Lutumba and hope this will encourage other youth to participate next time, leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

As the competition grows, they aim to stream it on television and introduce more rounds, including semifinals and finals, to give artists more exposure.

Sibanda also used the platform to urge young people to stay away from drugs and crime.

“This program says no to drugs. Stop stealing livestock and focus on developing yourself,” he emphasized.

The Beitbridge Super Star talent search continues to grow, giving a spotlight to local artists and promoting positive youth engagement through music and performance.
