The Ministry of Health and Childcare has released its weekly Disease Surveillance Report, revealing a significant increase in suspected influenza cases across Zimbabwe. For the week ending October 27, 2024, the nation recorded 4,566 suspected cases of influenza, with no new fatalities.

The data shows that Manicaland province is the most affected, reporting a staggering 1,501 suspected cases, followed closely by Mashonaland East, which documented 1,197 cases.

These statistics underscore the urgent need for enhanced public health measures in these regions, particularly as the flu season progresses.

Cumulative figures since the monitoring began indicate that Zimbabwe has seen 280,968 suspected influenza cases overall, with a total of 2 deaths directly linked to the virus.

Healthcare providers are encouraged to remain vigilant, particularly in areas with the highest reported cases.

Citizens are reminded to consider vaccination as a proactive step to combat influenza, especially in light of the recent surge in infections.
