THE Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) has warned media practitioners and the public about an accreditation scam involving an individual posing as a ZMC agent.
In a statement on Tuesday , ZMC said it had been made aware of a disturbing scam in which an individual is posing as a ZMC accreditation agent and swindling unsuspecting media practitioners, particularly Zimbabweans based in South Africa.
The Commission revealed that the scammer is demanding US$70 via Mukuru while promising to process media accreditation cards.
“The scammer is reportedly demanding payment of US$70 via Mukuru and promising to process Media Accreditation Cards on behalf of media practitioners,” ZMC said.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms these despicable acts, which are designed to take advantage of vulnerable individuals,” ZMC said.
ZMC urged anyone who may have been approached by the scammer to come forward and report the matter to the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, the Commission said it is engaging law enforcement agencies to investigate and possibly apprehend those behind the scam.
“We urge stakeholders to be cautious and vigilant when seeking ZMC services,” the Commission said.
ZMC said all legitimate accreditation services are provided through official channels only.
“All legitimate services related to Media Accreditation Cards are provided through official channels, including the ZMC website and offices,” the statement said.
