The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested six suspects in connection with a stock theft case in Chegutu. The arresting of the six has drawn attention to the ongoing challenge of cattle rustling in the region.
According to a statement released by the ZRP, the incident occurred during the night of January 2 when four cattle were stolen from Plot 8, Chikanga Farm, located in Chegutu.
Following the theft, community members were quick to respond after discovering the suspects early on January 3, as they were allegedly in the process of deboning the stolen cattle.
At approximately 2:30 AM, local authorities received a tip-off indicating that the suspects were fleeing in a Toyota Noah vehicle with the registration number ADP 440 along the Harare–Bulawayo Road
Acting promptly, police officials set up a roadblock, where they successfully intercepted the vehicle, leading to the apprehension of the suspects.
The six individuals arrested have been identified as Owen Tinashe Mandizvidza Mutungamiri (25), Philip Chirasasa (28), Lloyd Chirasasa (44), David Chirasasa (28), Peter Chirasasa (32), and Abel Chirasasa (30). During the police operation, investigators recovered the four deboned carcasses along with 25 kitchen knives and 25 sacks from the vehicle.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to stock theft as the investigation continues.
Officials are reminding the public to be alert and report any suspicious activities to help further deter cattle rustling incidents in the region.
