One person died on the spot in a side swap accident involving a haulage truck coming from Beitbridge border post and a Zimra branded Toyota Corolla going the opposite direction near Chicago.

Investigations have however indicated the car in question does not belong to Zimra but was bought by a client at an auction conducted by the revenue authority.

The driver of the badly damaged Toyota Corolla, is alleged to have swiveled from his lane straight into the haulage truck, before veering off the road landing on the sideways of his lane.

The truck driver (name supplied) lost control of his vehicle veering onto the opposite lane, into the bush before screeching to a halt about 250 metres off the road.

According to the truck driver, the deceased seems to have deliberately encroached onto his lane at full speed, causing the accident.

Eye witnesses who had earlier seen the deceased allege he showed signs of distress and was swerving as he was moving.

The area around Chicago is fast becoming a black spot, the accident comes hard on the heels of another one last month , the bus collision which took 9 lives around the same area.
