BEITBRIDGE residents are experiencing a sharp change in weather conditions, with cold winds and showers replacing the usual sunny conditions recorded earlier this week.
The change became noticeable on Monday when a sunny day was followed by strong winds, while some parts of Beitbridge received showers overnight.
The latest forecast from the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) indicates that the cold and windy conditions are set to continue today, Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
According to the MSD, Matabeleland South, including Beitbridge, is expected to experience cloudy, cool and windy conditions in the morning, with a chance of light rain and drizzle in some areas.
The department says conditions are expected to become mostly cloudy and mild in the afternoon.
The forecast is part of a wider weather system affecting several southern and central parts of Zimbabwe, including Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo, southern Midlands, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East and Central provinces.
The MSD has also warned of cold conditions overnight in some areas.
“Matabeleland South is expected to experience cloudy, cool and windy conditions this morning, with a chance of light rain and drizzle in some areas. Conditions are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with mild temperatures in the afternoon,” the MSD said.
The department also warned of cold conditions overnight in some areas and urged farmers to take precautions against frost.
“Farmers are advised to implement frost prevention measures where necessary, with guidance from their local Agricultural Business Advisory Officers,” the department said.
It also urged poultry farmers to monitor temperatures in fowl runs and make adjustments where necessary.
The sudden shift from sunny conditions to strong winds, cloud cover and overnight showers is a reminder of the rapidly changing winter weather conditions affecting southern Zimbabwe.
The public is encouraged to continue monitoring official weather updates and take precautions against the cold and windy conditions.
