The Beitbridge Customs and Excise Department has detained several trailers of cross-border buses and ordered their commercial goods be processed procedurally.
The buses have left minus the trailers parked inside the bus terminal where dozens of owners of the goods have gone to sleep in the open waiting for commercial processes to be concluded.
A passenger said they were told they had to declare their goods commercially after the officers noticed several similar goods unlikely for individual use.
“We will sleep here and follow procedures. Perhaps then we will not be returned on the highway,” she said.
A bus agent who spoke to Ziyah News Network last night said his coach had already left for Harare with passengers and the trailer would be picked up later.
Efforts to get comment from the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority under which Customs and Excise operate were not possible at the time of going to the press.
