Beitbridge’s 2024 Mayor’s Cheerfund fundraising dinner held last night proved to be a resounding success, with numerous private and public companies pledging cash, goods, and services to support those in need within the community.
The event was a heartwarming display of solidarity and generosity, providing essential support to underprivileged families, including the coverage of tuition fees for several less privileged children.
In attendance were mayors from several cities, including Masvingo and Kariba, demonstrating a united front in their commitment to uplifting communities across the region.
Beitbridge Town Clerk Loud Ramakgapola delivered an inspiring speech, expressing gratitude to the attendees for their support.
“Thank you very much for agreeing to participate in this year’s Mayor’s campaign to raise funds for the underprivileged in our community,” he stated.
“Your presence shows your commitment to enjoy the 2024 Christmas with all of our people in our town. This is a big encouragement to our aim and a real contribution to the happiness of fellow human beings,” he added.
Ramakgapola emphasized the purpose of the fundraising drive, which is to ensure that those in need are able to experience the joy of Christmas.
“As we stated in our appeal to you earlier, the purpose of this year’s drive is to raise enough money to make the underprivileged enjoy some sort of Christmas. Your job today is to enjoy your dinner and make further contributions to the cause,” he noted.
Masvingo City Council Mayor, Council Aleck Tabe, also spoke at the event, commending Beitbridge for hosting such impactful gatherings.
“These events are crucial for community building and in my city, we also prioritize holding events like this, as they serve to strengthen our bonds and uplift those who need it most,” Tabe remarked.
The evening concluded with a palpable atmosphere of hope and community spirit, as generous contributions continued to flow in.
The Mayor’s Cheerfund dinner exemplifies how collaborative efforts can truly make a difference, ensuring that the festive season is brightened for many families in the Beitbridge area.
